Animal Control
Posted Wednesday, 18 May 2011, 11:02 am ADT
All residents are reminded that all domestic animals must be licensed. The current license fee is $20, good for the life of the animal. If your pet has lost its tag, it can be replaced free of charge.

Animals found roaming at large can be impounded and licensed animals will be held at the pound in Goose Bay for 24 hours. The Town Office will notify owners of tagged animals that are impounded. Owners can retrieve their animals from the pound on payment of the following fees:

First Offence in 12 months $100
Second Offence in 12 Months $250

Animals that are not tagged or animals caught for a third time in twelve months will be euthanized.

Animal owners are urged to keep their pets under control at all times. Roaming pets face danger from other animals and injury from vehicles etc.
It is also important to keep your pets' shots up to date to avoid contracting diseases such as Parvo, which is prevalent in the area.

Spayed or neutered pets are generally better behaved and less likely to cause problems, Contact your vet or the SPCA for more information on proper care of your pet.

Thinking of adopting a stray? Remember that responsible pet ownership is a long-term commitment of time and finances. There are many animals available, that would make excellent pets, if properly vaccinated and trained. Contact the local SPCA for information on adopting or fostering, or if you adopt a local stray, have it seen by a vet to ensure its health and safety.
