Groomed Snowmobile Trails - A Vital Transportation Link
The Town of North West River is now responsible for grooming the portion of the Trans-Labrador Trail from North West River to Mulligan and north towards Postville as far as Separation Lake. Beyond Separation Lake, trails to Makkovik and Postville are maintained by those communities. The trail from Mulligan to Rigolet is maintained by the Rigolet groomer.

Our trails are maintained under the Labrador Transportation Grooming Subsidy Program administered by Labrador and Aboriginal Affairs. The full length of our trail will normally be groomed at least once every two weeks, depending on weather and snow conditions.

Trail users are advised to take appropriate safety precautions, and to heed all directional and warning signs. Parts of the trail may be heavily traveled, and there are numerous ice crossings.

Remember: DRIVE SAFE, DRIVE SOBER

New trail routing
This winter, sections of the trail are being re-routed and improved.

In Town, the trail will now run across the ballfield and between Paddon Road and Airstrip Road, crossing Montague and coming out on the firebreak. This will reduce the congestion at the intersection by the Forestry Centre and should provide a longer travel season. Watch for the new signage that is being installed.

Funds have been approved for improvements to the trail around Sandy's Tilit Brook and for re-routing two turns between Sabi and Mulligan.

Also new this year, the subsidized grooming has been extended from North West River to Goose Bay, providing better travel for visitors from the Coast. No trail pass will be required on this section for 2010.

Watch for more news on trail grooming and the launch of a tracking site for the groomer.

Lack of snow limits trail grooming
Due to the limited snowfall and thin ice at Sabi Bight, we have been unable to groom the trail to its usual level.

We regret any inconvenience this has caused trail users, and will continue to make our best efforts to maintain the trail as weather conditions permit.

Travelers are urged to exercise caution, especially when crossing the ice.
