Well summer is closing in on us. We hope everyone had an enjoyable summer, especially our school children!
As most of you may know by now, Pat has retired after working with the town for 28 years. He began in 1990 as assistant to Ray Montague. When Ray retired Pat assumed his role as Maintenance Supervisor. Which he worked for accumulative time of 15 years. Many thanks for his service in keeping things going over the years. He will be missed by all, however promised he will be around to "bother" if need be!
We would like to welcome new residents to our Town. If there is any information you need that you may not already have, please do not hesitate to contact us. Garbage collection is Wednesday for Airstrip Rd and below. Thursday for uptown. Household garbage is to be placed at side of road by 8:30 on pick up day. Nets are available at town office.
The brush pit is being used by many, it is to be used for "brush" or anything that can go back in earth where it came from. For the most part, we all take care to do this. However, for the few who still think garden hoses and plastic belong there, please act accordingly. As it only takes a few to ruin it for the rest of us.
It was nice to see improvements and activities happening during the summer.
Thanks to the cemetery committee and project workers who done a great job at our cemeteries.
Our Come Home Year week was a busy one that offered something for all. A true example of what can be accomplished by a good team, with a plan. Many thanks to the committee members who spent lots of time preparing to make it happen, Well done!
It seems summer is never long enough, some of the planned outside work got done, however some didn't, some things we have no direct control of, as the supply chain of goods have slowed considerably. The self-contained bathroom trailer for beach have just arrived, despite being ordered last November, well it will be ready for next swimming season!

We have set up the park benches and we did get the new dock installed. Improved parking is still to come. We have purchased the "old hospital land" some of the lower area will be used for this purpose. We hope to have this work done before winter.
Interior renovations have started at the Municipal building and will continue into the Fall.
We have a quick update from the North West River Volunteer Fire Dept.
Fire prevention week runs from October 09-15. The NWRVFD will make their annual visit to Lake Melville School sometime during the week. The NWRVFD current has a full roster of 20 members, most which have been fit tested for SCBA use at fires. All gear and apparatus have been inspected and tested for the upcoming year. The Department would like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Iliget Community Partnerships Inc. for its continuous support.
Should you require fire services please call 911 or our local number 709 497 2222
Fire Chief Reg Hutchings
Things are coming together for Cain's Quest which will be taking place in March 2023. We will be a lay over this time. Anyone who would like to take part and help in anyway as the time draws nearer, can contact the office.
Regular council meetings are held the first Monday of every month unless it falls on a holiday at which time it is the following Monday. Anyone who would like to present are asked to call office by Friday noon of prior week.
A note from Labrador Institute Pye Centre, to pass along..
From Sept. 22–25, the Pye Centre is planning a fall harvest celebration week, full of talks, workshops, and farm tours, culminating in a Fall Farm Fun Day on Sunday, Sept. 25. Kids and adults alike will enjoy visits from curly-haired pig, miniature horse, chickens and highland cattle.

With upcoming school year starting, lets remember bus safety, and make sure that this school year is a safe and enjoyable one for all.

Take care
