Canadian Armed Forces Humanitarian Disaster Training
May 4, 2026 Happy Valley-Goose Bay, N.L. Canadian Armed Forces
5 Wing / Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Goose Bay advises the public that the Canadian Armed Forces will be conducting Exercise READY RENAISSANCE 2026 at the Wing and at certain locations in the region from May 11-22, 2026.
Approximately 66 personnel from 1st Canadian Division Headquarters, as well as from across the Canadian Armed Forces and from Global Affairs Canada will be conducting Exercise READY RENAISSANCE 2026 an annually scheduled training exercise for Canadian Armed Forces' personnel which is designed to prepare high-readiness members to deploy around the world in response to a variety of humanitarian and natural disaster scenarios. The exercise will focus on the planning and deployment of an initial assessment team to conduct surveys and liaison with fictional government and non-governmental actors within an artificial scenario.
The training will be conducted in and around 5 Wing Goose Bay, as well as in North West River, Muskrat Falls and Cartwright. The public may see CAF members interacting with volunteer role players from those communities as well as CAF role players. No participants will be carrying weapons during this exercise.
There will be a simulated medical evacuation scenario on mid-morning of May 20, 2026, in the vicinity of the Forest Management Centre in North West River involving helicopters from 444 Squadron. While the public can interact with exercise participants, they are advised to keep a safe distance from the helicopters for their own safety.
Safety of participants and the civilian population is a priority. Steps have been taken to avoid disturbing human and wildlife populations during this training. This is an example of 5 Wing supporting military training for the Canadian Armed Forces, Allies and NORAD.
